Description
Horimiya follows two classmates at Katagiri High School in present-day Japan. Popular, high-achieving Kyouko Hori spends her free time caring for her younger brother, while quiet Izumi Miyamura hides his tattoos and piercings at school. A chance meeting outside school reveals the sides they keep from their classmates. They start growing closer in private, largely without their classmates knowing.
Their romance moves forward early, leaving room for life as a couple and the friends around them. The story is mostly warm and lighthearted, with bittersweet moments about loneliness, insecurity, and past bullying. Some jokes involve hitting, but graphic violence isn’t a focus.
Pros
- The romance develops early, leaving time to see the leads as a couple.
- Warm everyday moments with relatively little drawn-out romantic drama.
- A lively supporting cast with friendships and stories of their own.
- Appealing artwork by Daisuke Hagiwara.
Cons
- Later chapters can feel repetitive, with less story progression.
- The focus shifts away from Hori and Miyamura.
- Hori’s jealousy and slapstick violence can be off-putting.
