Description
Naoto Yanagi grows up rich, popular, and used to winning—until transfer student Mikoto Kujou outdoes him in both grades and sports. His plan to make her fall for him backfires when he falls for her instead. The opening follows them from childhood to university in present-day Japan, where most of the story unfolds around their astronomy-club friends.
Much of the humor comes from Yanagi’s private panic behind his polished image and Kujou’s practical, literal way of thinking. Their long friendship gives the romance warmth, but recognizing and expressing love takes time. It’s mostly light and playful, with jealousy, romantic rivals, class differences, and family expectations adding some drama. Graphic violence is not a focus.
Pros
- Yanagi’s flustered inner thoughts make his confident image much funnier.
- The leads’ long shared history gives small acts of care emotional weight.
- The college setting and astronomy-club friends add variety to the romance.
Cons
- Repeated misunderstandings and missed signals can make progress feel slow.
- Love triangles may feel like extra obstacles to an already hesitant romance.
