Description
High school student Raku Ichijo wants an ordinary life, despite being a yakuza boss’s son. To stop a feud between their families, he and hot-tempered transfer student Chitoge Kirisaki must pretend to be a couple. They can barely stand each other, and Raku already likes his classmate Kosaki Onodera. He also wears a locked pendant tied to a childhood promise; the girl with its key might be his first love.
Set mainly at a high school in modern Japan, Nisekoi mixes fake dating, rival crushes, and a slowly unfolding mystery. It’s mostly a playful romantic comedy, with sweeter moments and painful feelings beneath the bickering. Exaggerated punches and fights are usually played for laughs rather than graphic violence, and there are occasional suggestive jokes and bath scenes.
Pros
- Expressive faces and lively visual jokes keep the comedy moving.
- Clashing personalities give the friendships and quieter romantic moments their charm.
Cons
- Repeated misunderstandings and near-confessions can make romantic progress feel stalled.
- Some love interests can feel less developed than others.
