Description
Three Days of Happiness is set in contemporary Japan. Broke and convinced he has little to look forward to, 20-year-old Kusunoki visits a shop that buys people’s remaining lifespans. He sells thirty years for ¥300,000, keeping just three months. Miyagi, a young employee, is assigned to monitor him during those months. Only Kusunoki can see her, so even an ordinary conversation between them can make him look as though he is talking to himself.
Their uneasy arrangement gradually becomes a close bond as Kusunoki revisits old hopes and learns what matters to him. The supernatural premise raises questions about what makes a life worthwhile beyond money or achievement. This is a short, reflective romance with a bleak opening, gentle humor, and tender everyday moments. The tone is bittersweet and often emotionally heavy, with loneliness, regret, death, and suicidal thoughts; graphic violence is not a focus.
