Description
In present-day Japan, shy high school freshman Ao Kurose gets stuck cleaning the nurse’s office as part of his health committee duties. There he keeps running into Mio Haimiya, an older student with piercings, a gray wolf cut, and a blunt Kansai dialect. Most students find her intimidating, but she is surprisingly gentle with him.
Much of the comedy comes from Kurose misreading her attention while readers see her softer side. Small acts of care gradually bring them closer. The tone is mostly sweet and playful, with jealousy, suggestive jokes, and more serious moments about loneliness and past hurts. Graphic violence is not a focus.
Pros
- Expressive artwork makes Haimiya’s shifting moods a highlight.
- The leads’ caring, awkward interactions give the romance a warm feel.
- Haimiya’s blunt humor and Kansai dialect give her a distinct voice.
Cons
- The familiar setup and repeated “scary, then sweet” gag can feel formulaic.
- Kurose can feel underdeveloped beside the more memorable Haimiya.
