Description
In an alternate present, children are born without a sex, and their bodies usually develop toward their chosen gender between twelve and fourteen. As high school draws to a close, Hinase Arima still has neither male nor female physical traits. Then childhood friends Ritsu Kaga, a girl, and Shiori Takayama, a boy, confess their feelings on the same day. Hinase must sort out attraction and friendship while others press them to define who they are.
This is a reflective school romance about identity, belonging, and the fear of growing up. Tender everyday moments sit alongside jealousy, social pressure, and painful uncertainty. Delicate faces and selective blue accents give unspoken feelings weight; the love triangle develops through conversations and hesitation rather than quick romantic milestones.
Pros
- Expressive faces and the original’s blue accents make small emotional shifts visible.
- Hinase’s uncertainty gives questions of identity a personal, relatable focus.
- Both childhood friends have feelings and vulnerabilities beyond their roles as love rivals.
Cons
- The love triangle’s uncertainty may frustrate readers seeking clear romantic progress.
- The story’s binary rules and links between gender and attraction can feel limiting.
