Description
Shy junior high student Kaede Komura has a crush on Ai Mie, who sits next to him at school in present-day Japan. Ai is very nearsighted and often forgets her glasses, so he helps her read textbooks and get through the school day. When she leans close to see him clearly, even a routine conversation can leave him tongue-tied.
Short comic episodes gradually give way to longer chapters about first love, growing trust, and learning to speak up. The story stays close to the pair’s small favors and awkward exchanges rather than building a large ensemble. It is mostly gentle and affectionate, with nervous humor and some worries about self-confidence and what comes after junior high.
Pros
- A warm, gentle romance built on small acts of kindness.
- The leads gain emotional depth as the chapters grow longer.
Cons
- The repeated missing-glasses gag can make the opening feel slow.
- The simple story may feel too slight for readers who want more plot.
